God, that was boring. Out of a possible 10 points, only one person did better than 50%. When one considers the actual probabilities of choosing correctly based on pure chance, it would lead to a score of 1.5 or so. When you consider that 0.5 was guaranteed if one chose either the yankees to make the playoffs in the AL, and then another point pretty much guaranteed because everyone (except four, including the guy who did the best) chose the phillies to win the east, then many of these "experts" were pretty useless. I guess if they scored a four or higher, I might listen to them in the future, and probably coincidentally, 2 of the 3 guys (Keith Law and Rob Neyer) that I think provide good insight into baseball on ESPN scored higher than that, and the other (Buster Olney) was just under at 3.5. Then again, hindsight is 20/20, and so is my vision now that I got my new glasses.

Hi,

I root for several sports teams. In football (college and pro) and basketball, there happen to be many incidents involving the players, that are not exactly flattering in most people's eyes. As far as I know, there is not a single team that consists entirely of players that have experienced zero criminal incidents. As far as I know, there is not a single Fortune 500 company that employs only people with zero criminal charges (chick-fil-a?).

So when someone (these people are referred by Jason Whitlock as Palinites) says my team sucks because there happens to be someone who committed a crime on the team, I say, your team is no better. And thus begins the pissing contest of whose teams criminal charges are worse (my opinion rape worse than manslaughter, better than murder 2, accusations of rape worse than robbery, unless armed robbery).

After reflecting upon these arguments (nobody ever wins these arguments, we don't ever even say "agree to disagree"), I came to a conclusion, WTF, I DON'T CARE. If I wanted to root for a team based on how good the people on the team were, I'd go around to private Catholic high school games or I dunno, do nuns play ball? With the actual professional teams that I root for, all I care about is their ability to win and the style that they choose to go after the win. What a player does off the field/court/playing surface is irrelevant. I mean look, do I like the fact that Mike Vick trained dogs to fight and sorta (I say sorta ironically) tortured them? No, but he was caught, served time, and now he gets to play football. Mike Vick, the athlete, is defined by his performance on the field. Mike Vick, the person, is not someone I care to know. I don't care what any athlete does off the field, they are humans, maybe a little richer on average than the Average American, but am I surprised when an athlete is a dick or full of themselves or a nice person? No. They are people. Do I think it is news that Ben Roethlisberger attempted to have sex with a girl, who may or may not wanted to have sex? Nope. Do I think it is kind of funny? Yes, but only because normal people manage to have sex without all these sorts of issues. Do I think it will affect his ability to play football? Nope, I mean unless they put him in jail, but that's less affecting his abilities, and more affecting whether or not he can leave jail to go to Heinz Field.

In the end, I vow never to argue the merits of any sports team based on the criminal records (or some in cases lack of criminal records). In fact, I won't ever argue that the personalities or anything that is superficial about the athletes (like he struggled when he was younger so obviously he has great heart and wants to win even more) make any sort of difference in competition. Well, maybe basketball, because the great player's personality is imprinted in their style of play.

Well it finally happened. Eddie Jordan got fired as the head coach of the Wizards. After a 1-10 start to the season. I am sort of in agreement with the decision. The team just seems plain stale. I think there needs to be a shakeup with the lineup as well. One of my friends mentioned that the Wizards should have traded Antawn Jamison and Gilbert Arenas for Kevin Garnett when Garnett was a free agent a while ago. The free agent group for 2010 seems pretty good. Maybe the Wizards really should rebuild this season and unload some of the guys taking up a lot of cap room kind of like what the Knicks have done.

"A physical bruiser known for his ability to bang down low and battle with bigs for offensive rebounds(and then turn them back over to the defense), Brown is a physical warrior on the court (hands made out of stone will give that impression). (NOT) Surprisingly, his attitude is a lot more laid back in person. Though people around him say he can be acerbic (what?) when provoked, he genuinely comes off as an easy going guy (maybe because he is, and he's lazy). The confidence is stunning for an undrafted player out of Virginia (GO WAHOOS!!!), who's spent time in the D-League (scrubs), Greece (SPARTA!!!!!), and Israel (JEWSSSS!!!!!!!!!), and is now competing again for an NBA roster spot (it better be an XXXL).

Brown was one of the last cuts with the Knicks in 2006 (ooooooooooh the knicks....), and one of the last cuts for the Lakers in 2007 (Phil felt sorry for him). He's never made it over the hump (he got winded about 1/4 the way through), though, and last year,despite averaging a double double (meats AND potatoes) in the D-League and being leaps (stifle laughter) and bounds (still cant beat gravity) above his colleagues in terms of physical play (slap-fighting) and rebounding (grasping for air), frustration led him to take the money and run... to Israel (WAFFLE HOUSE).

He's back, though, because the goal of playing in the NBA is still so close to within reach (ran out of money). And while that might drive some people completely nuts (or BONKERS!!), for Elton, it's just another regular day at the office.

Summer League days are hard (really?), but they're not unbearable (well then no one would do it then....). He wakes up around 9 or 10 (NO WAY!), grabs something (somethingSSSSSSSSSS) to eat, and heads to the arena for practice (we talking about practice? /iverson). The practices, he says are harder than the players thought they would be, but he's happy with that (makes him hungrier). He's a physical player (LIES!). He likes physical practices. He heads back to the hotel to rest before the game.(BIG SURPRISE!)

First story: another one bites the dust. First of all I wonder why the hell don't sports stars sign pre-nuptial agreements??? This happens time and time again. I read a NY Times article a few months ago that featured this one woman who after college at the age of 22/23 got married and then proceeded to married and divorced a total of SEVEN times over the course of the next ten years and never had to and will never have to work a job in her life. Hey I gotta give it to her. She was smart. Those seven guys were not. Come on guys lets be real here. I don't care how caring and nice your girl is. Of course no one wants to think about or contemplate divorce when you're walking that isle but think about it. A failure rate of 54% is the last I checked in the U.S. That is greater than HALF. Seriously. Would you ever embark on an endeavor that has a known failure rate to be greater than 50% without giving it some consideration and buying protection? This is even more important when you have so much to lose say HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS. Oh well I guess to each his own...

In other news: Gilbert Arenas decides to stay with the Wizards for less money. They were talking about this on Around the Horn yesterday on ESPN. Quite true. What's the difference between $111 million and $127 million? My answer: $16 million. I think it was a good move on Arenas' part. He is coming off knee surgeries and in fact one of the guys on ATH even mentioned that he is probably only worth $90 million. Touche. It remains to be seen. Wizards picked up a big man in the draft so hopefully this will help out Haywood. I think the team also needs a pure shooter.

Well this is going to be the last Wizards post-game entry for this season. Wizards got crushed in game 6 and have now been eliminated by the Cavaliers from the playoffs for the third straight season. Not sure why Stevenson called LeBron overrated. The game was over midway through the second quarter. The only highlight was when the Papa Johns contestant actually made a three point shot to give the entire arena a free pizza the next day. First time it happened all season. Lots of question marks for the Wizards next season. Should be an interesting off-season.

This game was close the entire time when the Wizards pulled away about 1/4 through the 4th quarter. Gilbert Arenas provided a very good spark off the bench. One thing that I did notice in the past two games is that Nick Young has not played at all. Caron Butler was out this game and the Wizards probably could have won more comfortably had he been in the lineup. I'm not really sure how the Sixers have the record they have right now because they don't really have anyone good on that team.

Wizards beat the Celtics 109-95 to become the only team in the NBA to beat the Celtics 3 times this season. Jamison dunked over KG (see previous post), and Gil played some good minutes coming off the bench. There was this really annoying (and probably very drunk) Celtics fan sitting a few rows in front of me who had a really crappy sign and was talking trash the whole time even though his team lost. Wizards won in a thrilling OT game Saturday against the Clippers. Charlotte was in town last night and beat up on the Wizards. The Wizards mounted a comeback late in the fourth quarter but it wasn't enough. What struck me was the Wizard's terrible 3-point shot percentage during the game. When are Butler and Arenas getting back? A different vantage point (has anyone seen that move? Tuned in a little bit to last night's loss to the Jazz. Blatche had himself a career night, and from the first time that I've seen Eddie Jordan had him and Brendan Haywood in the game at the same time. From what I saw it looked like a good move. Then again the only reason why Blatche had so much PT was that Caron was injured last night. I'm imagining a much, MUCH less talented version of the Tim Duncan-David Robinson duo that helped San Antonio win a championship a few years back. Blatche-Haywood....doesn't quite have a ring to it, but they did have several good defensive series while I was watching.

Gil said that he'd be back March 1/2. I hope that he doesn't decide to resume "The Takeover" because the team has been playing surprisingly well. I also hope that the rest of the team doesn't decide to defer to him like they used to. A lot of these young guys like Nick Young and the aforementioned Blatche have really benefited from this extra PT and should continue to develop. Besides, even though Arenas says he wants to stay in DC there's no telling where he'll be in the next few years.

They had Antawn miked up for last night's game. Not exactly the type of guy that's going to have entertaining things to say like maybe a Charles Barkley or Shaq, who by the way did not make the All-Star team and rightfully so.

I have really learned to like Steven A. Smith and what he has to say. When I first started watching him I thought he was annoying as hell but now I feel differently. He and Bill Walton are like a watered-down version of Sean Salisbury and John Clayton (by the way, doesn't he look like Jim Perdue?). The fact that he holds nothing back and calls people scrubs on national TV is quite entertaining actually.

The Lakers will be in town on Sunday. I wonder if Pau Gasol will be playing...

I say that if the Patriots win the SuperBowl, then instead of having the Pro Bowl where the best of the AFC plays the best of the NFC, they should have the Patriots go for a 20-0 season by playing the best of the entire NFL. They should create a super-team with the best of the AFC/NFC and play the Patriots in a game. I'd bet that get much higher ratings than the Pro Bowl.

So, a couple option for the Ravens at QB for next year....

Option 1: Andre Woodson as the Raven's first round pick. I would like them to trade down in the first round and draft him.
Option 2: Sign Donovan McNabb. Assuming Philly lets him go, veteran QB with something to prove, basically depends on who the Ravens bring in as head coach next year....what sort of offense the Ravens look to run (another alternative would be Byron Leftwich, since Ozzie liked him way back when anyways).
Option 3: Stick with either Kyle Boller or Troy Smith. Like the emergency QB, this is a last resort option.

New Jersey Nets @ Washington Wizards

The Wizards beat the New Jersey Nets last night. The Nets got ahead during the second quarter but somehow the Wizards pulled away during the second half behind hot shooting from Caron Butler. What was also surprising to me was the burst of offense the Wizards enjoyed from DeShawn Stevenson. Mr. "You Can't See Me"/"I Can't Feel My Face" I think had a dozen points and even posterized Richard Jefferson on a dunk. Be rest assured that Stevenson got T'd up for unsportsmanlike conduct / taunting. This guy Nachbar on the Nets also surprised me during the first half but went absolutely cold for the Nets during the second half. I also got the game pretty early too so I had the chance to tour the Verizon Center like it was my house. The only other thing to note was the Metro ride home in which I was talking to this random dude about how he works for a towing company that deals with celebrity cars. One of the cars he supposedly towed was whatever Gil drives in the opening player intro video. Let's go through the game...

Phoenix Suns @ Washington Wizards

The Suns beat the Wizards last night in convincing fashion. I didn't give the Wizards a chance in this game and they proved me right. Surprisingly enough the Wizards hung around in the first half but the sheer speed and good shooting of the Suns was too much. The Suns do a very good job of inbounding the ball and getting it up the court immediately after a made basket on the other end. They are also quick to shoot the ball which plays into their game of taking a lot of shots and making them. There were not that many fouls committed during the game and with the quick pace it seemed like the game went by fast. There were multiple players on the Suns who ended up with double digits in scoring and Steve Nash the Canadian had 19 assists. Grant Hill started for the Suns and played decently well. As for the Wizards it seemed like Caron Butler got off to a slow start and never got anything going. There is just a total lack of offense from DeShawn Stevenson. I say let Nick Young start in his place. Let's go through the game...

Reasons why the Raven's Lost

As soon as Kyle Boller threw the interception. I knew my fate. I asked my roommate if I went to bed right now with the Ravens leading by four, then it would stay that way. He said no, but I should have gone to bed anyways.

I dont blame the defense for the penalties, the lack of discipline, stupid timeouts or only rushing 3-4 guys at the end of the game. That is all coaching. That is the difference between good teams and bad teams. In the end, all the teams have around the same amount of talent. But good coaches put their talent in positions to shine. Why is the mad backer dropping back in pass coverage? He needs to be angry, going after the QB, inflicting PAIN.

The Wizards defeated the Raptors last night in a game in which both Chris Bosh and Gilbert Arenas didn't play. It was a mostly uneventful game as Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison led the Wizards in scoring as they should have. The Washington organization retired the jersey of Earl "The Pearl" Monroe and had a tribute to his career during halftime. The other highlight was that the Verizon Center celebrates its 10th year of existence on December 2. Every fan entering the game last night got a Verizon Center replica paperweight as well as a replica banner commemorating Earl Monroe. Let's go through the game...

COMMENT: COACH OF THE YEAR? HUH? coach of the year is really the award that writers get to give to the team that they thought was going to suck at the beginning of the season, but actually turned out ok, but because there is no award for that, it goes to the coach.

I have been at UVA as long as Coach Groh has. In my entire time here, there was precisely ONE game that i thought UVA had no chance to win, but did end up winning...vs Florida State in 2005. Games that UVA should have won but actually lost, in 2007 alone there was @ NC state and @ Wyoming. Last year there were losses to Western Michigan and Eastern Carolina. The year before there was the dreadful defensive performance against MD where Vernon Davis appeared to run around the field with a protective force field and then the inexplicable loss to UNC by a score of 7-5.

Im gonna stop, its depressing me. The key thing is that Al Groh deserves the extra year, he doesnt deserve the actual amount of money he makes.

The Wizards lost to the Golden State Warriors on Saturday in a shootout. Golden State was just shooting lights out all night and the Wizards were not playing any defense whatsoever. I wonder what would happen if Eddie Jordan decided to play Blatche and Haywood at the same time. The only thing good that results from Gil being out for three months is that the spotlight is now on Butler and Jamison both of whom I have on my fantasy team. Like I said if the Wizards can stay at 0.500 for the next three months they can consider themselves lucky and probably still in the playoff race for the 7th or 8th spot by the time Gilbert comes back from the injury. Nick Young is also getting some decent playing time now and he has shown some promise. I also think that Darius Songalia should be cut from the squad. He is not even good enough to take up space and fouls. Let's go through the game...

The Wizards won in convincing fashion against the Trailblazers last night 109-90. As they should have. Gilbert Arenas was out and so was Greg Oden. Portland doesn't have anyone anyway so I spent much of the night going: "Who is that?" when trying to identify the people out there on the court impersonating NBA talent. Oh yeah, funny moment of the night: Some guy asking the refs whether it was over/under as they were exiting the tunnel and the ref looking back at the guy with a confused look. Let's go through the game:

I got there 45 minutes before tipoff because the D.C. Metro sucks. That's right. I got there early and I said the Metro sucks. That's because I planned on it being late and delayed like it is 99% of the time. So I had some time to stroll around the Verizon Center. Let us, however, take a stroll down memory lane shall we?...

Donovan and the Eagles come to Landover, MD to take on the Skins. Moss and Washington are out today. Let's see I think I'll take the Eagles today. Why do the announcers always say "Welcome to the Nation's Capital?". FedEx Field is in Maryland.

Eagles have 0 kick returns this seaon of 30+ yards. Let's see what happens. Reverse on the kick return. Nothing much really happened. Tripped over his own guy. C'mon Donovan. Need you to have a big day for the sake of my fantasy team. Completes his first pass. Good start. Did you know that Jason Campbell is dating Miss D.C.? I still think Brian Westbrook is one of the most overrated RB's out there.

Andy Reid - I think the last time the Eagles were playing the Redskins it was a MNF game a couple weeks ago and the announcers were talking about your sons that the rest of us refer to as criminals. Let's see if they mention it today. McNabb is just of on this first drive. Darryl - why would Donovan care what other people have to think about him being a "running" QB?

Well so far Westbrook is absolutely shredding this Redskin defense. Westbrook has never scored a touchdown at FedEx Field. Scratch that. Touchdown. Brian Westbrook. Well, the Eagles looked exactly like the UVA Cavaliers on this first drive marching their way down the field and scoring on the first drive. Let's see if the outcome is the same. Skins are going for it on 4th and 13...they have to. Campbell fumbles. Looks like this game is going to go to the Eagles. There's still plenty of time left though. Almost about 2.5 minutes left. Since the Skins don't have any timeouts they had to go for it instead of punting. Touchdown Brian Westbrook. Walks it in. Eagles 33, Redskins 25. Since the Redskins allowed the score so quickly there is still 2 minutes left in the game. It is still a one possession game. Eagles have scored 3 touchdowns in the 4th quarter. Game over. Eagles go to 4-5, Redskins go to 5-4. Redskins going to Dallas next week.

A.I. and Melo in town tonight. Jay-Z is also in town. He'll be performing at Love tonight. I wish I was invited. What I wish more was that I was invited to Gil's birthday party last year at Love. I wonder if the 26th birthday party will be as big. I doubt it, but I hope I'm invited haha. I wonder if Beyonce will be there tonight.

Stevenson is just awful. Have you seen his new tattoo? I heard he wanted to get his number tattooed on the middle of his back. Are you kidding me? I mean I understand the name but the number? Practically no one keeps his same jersey number throughout his career. It rarely happens and guys who have done it were back in the past and who were superstar Hall of Famers, not DeShawn Stevenson.

I've been impressed with Haywood so far this year. Maybe I was wrong in thinking that not having Thomas would be detrimental to his performance. Maybe he just needed to know that the job was his. Who knows its only been 4 games.

Nick Young is in during the first quarter. I like it. The Wiz need something to kick start them. Arenas is definitely not 100 percent. Andray Blatche is a young kid too, only 21. He's on Facebook. Add him as a friend. I think right now the offense has to go through Caron Butler. He's the only one really in a rhythm this year. He works best in transition on the break or off the dribble creating his own shot. I'm interested in seeing how Arenas changes his game to accommodate his injury in becoming a better passer and getting his teammates involved.

They're having problems with the clock on the floor. They installed two new clocks on the court one on each side of court on each basket. I like the new additions. They also upgraded the JumboTron at Verizon. Also quite nice. Damn. Melo is heating up. Alley-oop hitting a jumper.

End of first quarter tied at 28. Caron is definitely leading this team right now. I don't know where Jamison went. I like how Jordan is getting some of the new guys some PT along with Antonio Daniels. No, Mike, Songalia is not really a great addition for this team. Man the pace has really picked up during this game. I like it.

I've been warming up to Steven A. Smith. I used to think he was damn annoying but I'm starting to like how he puts Bill Walton in his place. I must say I'm surprised at how the Boston Celtics are playing this year thus far. Again only 4 games into the season but the big three are getting their points.

Wow, Arenas has played more minutes per game than anyone in the league so far this season. Didn't know that. Plus he's not 100%. Stevenson is just straight up struggling. Tear drop from Jamison. That's his shot. Wizards are now down by 17. Its getting ugly. That is not where you want your offense coming from...Songalia shooting an outside jumper. Why is he even out there? I'm hearing some boos. Well-deserved. Wizards have 15 turnovers. This is a sloppy game. Melo is just draining his shots. 25 points so far. So many turnovers. This is turning into a pickup playground type game. Blatche 11 points and 8 rebounds. Melo just can't miss. 13 points in the third quarter.

The best player on the Wizards Butler is not even on the floor right now. This game is getting difficult to watch with the poor execution and all of these turnovers. DAMN. Melo is just LIGHTS OUT right now. 30 points so far in this game and its only the third quarter.

Wiz down by 23 points now. Let's get some of the young guys in there now. This is a sad sight to see. The boos are coming out with regularity now. As it should be like Van Gundy said. I don't think it is entirely a lack of effort. Arenas is just not 100%, and they stopped getting the ball to Butler. Denver outscored Washington 33-11 in the third quarter. Nothing is going right for the Wizards. Disappointing. I don't think Melo has missed a shot this entire second half.

The Washington Wizards fell to 0-3 Saturday after losing to the Orlando Magic 94-82. There were several things that I noticed during the game:

Gilbert Arenas was playing with something on his leg during the first half. He finished with 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 6 assists. Definitely not usual Hibachi numbers. Agent 0 was definitely not himself as I thought he was playing "pass-first" basketball instead of looking for his shot.
Orlando was making shots beating Washington in 3-pt %, FG %, and FT %.

Brendan "Brenda" Haywood played a decent game finishing with 10 points and 16 rebounds.
Eddie Jordan left the B-squad in the game for too long during a stretch in the third quarter. I thought he could have played Antonio Daniels for more minutes.

Let's go back through the game shall we?

Redskins @ Jets

Coming off of a 52-7 beat-down against the New England Patriots the Washington Redskins hope to get back into the winning column this afternoon against the New York J-E-T-S. Shouldn't be too tall of a task. I think the Redskins should win today. Lav Coles is out for the first time in seven seasons. Too bad.

First play kickoff return Leon Washington. Yes! Got him on the fantasy team baby. The Jets have the most kickoff return touchdowns since 2001. The Redskins scored in their opening possession for the first time this season. Fluid front setup by the Jets. I like it. Clemens is decently fast. Man the Jets offense is rolling. Some guy who went to Syracuse just caught a touchdown pass for the Jets. Nice.

Onside kick by the Redskins. Great move. They recover. Damn. Nice draw play to Portis. Where did that speed come from? Clinton Portis has not rushed for a 100 yards in a game this season. 3rd field goal today for the Redskins. That's what they get from the recovered onside kick.

Another field goal for the Redskins. Who is this? The Ravens? Great sack by Laron Landry. It wasn't even on the blind side. Jets go 3 and out for the first time today, middle of the 3rd quarter.

So who do you got in the Superbowl coming up at 4? I think the Patriots will take it. 29 yard scramble by Campbell. That is the longest run by a Redskin this year. Campbell also has the second longest run for the team this season as well. Clinton Portis for the first time in the last 13 games finally has over 100 yards rushing.

32 yard run by Portis. He looks unusually fast today. Touchdown. Portis. Nice run attack on this drive by the Redskins with Portis and Betts. Redskins are going for 2. Complete to Randle-El. Nice drive and 2-point conversion.

We're headed to overtime 20-20. All I have to say is that this game better be over soon. I'm switching over to the Pats-Colts game in a few minutes. Going looooong. Campbell incomplete to Moss. Great idea though.

Redskins are huge underdogs today. I'm not giving them a chance.

Patriots offense is looking dominating as usual this first drive. NE loves the shotgun. It works so well for them. Brady is 5 for 5 so far on this first drive. FOX must have multiple microphones close to the field today. I can definitely hear the grunts once the play starts. Brady runs in for a touchdown. Yeah this game is gonna get out of hand.

I like that Hyundai commercial..."get a new one" hahaha. It's so true. What ever happened to commitment? If there's a way out then there's no need for it I guess.

F you Troy Aikman. Since when did you become a Red Sox fan? Give me a break. "I've always wanted to become a part of Red Sox nation" F that. You were a Red Sox fan since the age of 10?

Campbell overthrew Randle-El again. I'm telling you Campbell misses high a LOT. Damn. Maroney is running all over the Skins defense. Where has he been all year? Damn again. Did you know that the Patriots have never beaten the Redskins in the past 35 years? Joe Gibbs in a press conference this past week said even he wouldn't bet on his team to win today's game. Do you think Tom Brady gets bored blowing out teams? I think its safe to start thinking about the Colts next week. Why were there so many people at work giving the Redskins a chance this week? In the 11th round I had Marvin Williams in mind but again he was picked before it was my turn. I think I have a great all-around team. I think what will be the deciding factor for this team is whether or not A.I. (Andre Iguodala) pans out to be a smart 2nd round choice. I also need Okafor and Jamison to stay injury-free as they seem to be prone to being injured. I'm looking for Deron Williams and Ben Gordon to light it up real big with the numbers this year. Al Harrington with the 7th pick was a "I'm on the clock and I'm running out of time and I don't really know who to select" pick. Basically I'm hoping that LBJ just carries this team by himself and it doesn't really matter who else I have in the starting rotation. I'm ready for the season to start!

Wizards

First home Wizards game at Verizon Center is November 3. I'm looking forward to this year's season. I'll be attending some of the home games this year so hopefully I can provide a unique perspective from my vantage point at the games. My seats are right by the visiting player tunnel so I'll have some good media to post once the season starts. They used to allow fans to reach over the railing and give the players high fives but after the Pistons-Pacers fiasco you're lucky if security even allows you to shout at the players as they run by before and after the game and during halftime.

The 'Zards will be without center Etan Thomas who is out with a heart ailment. This means that Brendan Haywood is going to be handed the starting job which is not a good thing. I've always thought he could be a lot more productive for someone with his size, and not to mention a lot tougher/more intimidating presence down in the post. Thomas and Haywood never got along together on or off the court and I've felt that a little competition, and not even friendly competition at that helps. So losing Thomas means that Haywood is not going to have to look over his shoulder for playing time which is not going to help his motivation in my opinion. You also lose a tough defender and rebounder as well as an additional six fouls without Thomas on the floor. Another result of Thomas being out will be that Andray Blatche will find himself getting more playing time too although I still think his game isn't polished enough yet to make a decent impact for the team.

I'll also be interested in seeing how some of the new blood is going to help the team this year. As for any team maintaining healthy bodies on the floor, especially the big 3 Arenas, Butler, and Jamison is crucial to success. In the Wizards' case I think it is even more crucial because the team just isn't the same if even one of the three is out. It makes the other two try to overcompensate for the missing third. I remember watching a few games last season while Arenas was out and the Wizards were losing by 30-35 points and I thought to myself well that's where Gil's points would have filled in.

The first home game is always entertaining. The team tries to make the intros a little more unique than during the regular season. Last year they had a silhouette of D.C. in the back of the tunnel with a laser show. Gilbert came out last in a Wizard robe. The media staff usually does a good job of putting together a decent jumbo-tron video paired with upbeat music. Below was last year's video:

Ravens may or may not have Steve McNair starting. At this point, I dont know if I really prefer either him or Kyle Boller. All I want to see from the Ravens today is 125 yards from Willis McGahee and the Ravens defense holding the Rams to under 14 points.

1:03 Kyle Boller is starting....this should be very interesting. Also there is a young offensive line starting in front of him, hopefully that doesnt lead to fumbles/interception, all in all bad plays.....and Boller is sacked on the first play from scrimmage.

3:51 Rams turn it over on downs. Let's wrap this game up: Ravens Defense looks very very very very good....against a very very very very bad team. Ravens offense again looks ok, but cannot finish inside the red zone. The O-line for the Ravens played servicable football, the WRs played relatively well, McGahee played pretty well. The problem with the offense is not the players....rather it is the PLAYCALLING. Remember that. The Ravens defense is not necessarily the most talented defense in the league, rather it is the scheme and playcalling on the defensive side that makes them good. Unfortunately the Ravens, while good, are not particularly GREAT in any single phase of the game at this point. The Ravens could be GREAT at running the ball, or passing the ball, but they need to establish an identity. The Ravens Defense is GREAT at forcing turnovers...but if they miss out on opportunities, they tend to let it get inside their head and they start to let down on the basics of defense.

4:14 It's Week 5....Ravens are in San Fransisco, Home of many many rich people? Interesting match up because Mike Nolan, current head coach for the 49ers, was the defensive coordinator for the Ravens prior to Rex Ryan. The 49ers run a very similar defense to the one that the Ravens run now, the talent level is not the same, but that comes with time. Also, the 49ers QB is Trent Dilfer, former starting QB for the Ravens, and he splashed some hatorade on Billick earlier this week and then copped out with an apology. My prediction for this game...Billick will finally learn to run the ball and the Ravens will win handily. Billick will take credit for about 75% of McGahee's yards and claim that earlier in the season McGahee was just not healthy enough to run the ball or some BS excuse like that.

4:16 Somehow the FB was called for a false start. I dont know how that happens....hopefully he was just excited because the ravens were actually going to run the ball....

Greg Williams today is going to put his defenders in places where Mike Martz wants his receivers to be.
One of the things you have to be impressed with the Redskins is how they involve the offensive linemen in the offense.
The Lions have been out hit and out physical-ed by the Redskins.
Chris Samuels is one of the elite linemen in the league. He's good.
Redding needs to be better as this season rolls along. He is the team's franchise player.

Their stadium is named after their most successful coach Johnny Floyd who last coached in the 20's? The Blue Raiders are in the Sunbelt Conference, their mascot used to be a student dressed up as Nathan Bedford Forrest, who is best known as the Confederate General who was the first Grand Wizard of the KKK and also the namesake of Forrest Gump. Now the mascot is a blue-winged-horse...yea, I dont really get it either. UVA is notoriously bad on the road...the key is not Cedric Peerman, rather it is Sewell, who with a good game, can open up the field for Peerman to run. My prediction is UVA ekes one out...PLEASE DONT LOSE ON THE ROAD AGAIN.
